The Black Queens have arrived in Southampton as preparations reach the final phase for their international friendly against the Lionesses of England on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Stadium.
The team travelled from Birmingham on Sunday fully focused on wrapping up their build-up to what promises to be one of their toughest tests in recent years.
Coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren and his squad had been camped in Birmingham for the past few days, training at Aston Villa’s Bodymoor Heath Training Ground. During their stay, the Queens recorded a confidence-boosting 3–1 win over Aston Villa Women in a behind-closed-doors friendly, an exercise aimed at sharpening tactics and assessing match readiness.
Upon arrival in Southampton, the team received a warm reception from members of the Ghanaian community before checking in at the Hilton Hotel inside the Utilita Bowl facility, where they will continue their preparations.
They are set to hold their first training session in Southampton later today as they fine-tune the final details ahead of the December 2 clash.
The international friendly will serve as a major test for the Black Queens as they gear up for next year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and a chance to measure themselves against one of the world’s best.
