Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei, has underscored the critical role of farmers and fishermen in ensuring Ghana’s food security and economic stability.
Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, December 4, ahead National Farmers’ Day, she described the annual celebration as a vital opportunity to honour hardworking farmers across the country and showcase innovation within the agricultural sector.
She encouraged the adoption of modern farming techniques and the use of new technologies to boost productivity and improve yields. According to her, innovation remains key to transforming agriculture and making it more attractive to the youth.
Madam Appiagyei also emphasized the need for households to actively engage in food production to promote self-sufficiency and reduce dependency on imported food. She noted that strengthening local food production would go a long way in enhancing national food security.
Touching on government support, she said effective policies and the provision of adequate resources to farmers are essential to increasing agricultural output and creating sustainable jobs, especially for young people.
She paid glowing tribute to farmers nationwide, particularly those who have embraced innovation, for their tireless efforts in ensuring food availability and sustaining the nation’s economy.
