Government condemns attack on Tema West Municipal Assembly

The Head of Service at the Local Government Department, Dr. Ato Arthur has condemned yesterday’s attack on some officials of the Tema West Municipal Assembly by some church members of Anointed Palace Chapel.

At a press conference in Tema, Dr. Ato Arthur explained that the Assembly decided to embark on a Revenue Mobilization exercise to improve revenue genetation activities for the assembly.

When asked by the Assembly to produce building permit documents, the church management of the church could not do so. Dr. Arthur further instructed the taskforce to write on a portion of their wall to “Produce Permit by TWMA.” Just when they moved to carry out the exercise some youth of the church rushed on them, took their red paint and poured it on them, closed their main entrance gate and started beating them with sticks, metal strips, cutlasses and smashing their vehicles.

“I would like to inform Ghanaians that the church is under the state and not vice versa”, he emphasized.

“I want to send a strong warning to the Anointed Palace Chapel (APC) and everybody or any organization anywhere in Ghana that it is unlawful to attack any of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies throughout the country”, he said.

He added that those found culpable would be duly prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
