GPLonHappyFM: Week 9 wrap-up- Hearts, Olympics record wins, as WAFA, Kotoko share spoils

The 2020/21 Ghana Premier League week nine games saw some interesting fixtures played across the various league centres over the weekend.

Great Olympics head coach Yaw Preko begun his managerial career in the Ghana Premier League to a flying start with victory over Inter Allies on matchday nine.

A brace from Abbey Quaye ensured Great Olympics defeated Inter Allies at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.
Yaw Preko who filled in the big shoes left behind by Coach Annor Walker was assisted on the bench by former player of the club Godwin Attram.

Coach Annor Walker who had masterminded Olympics improved performance in the ongoing season had to be relieved off his duties due to health reasons.

Yaw Preko managed to win his first game in charge of the club and afterwards dedicated it to Coach Annor Walker.

“We did this for Annor Walker. We motivated the lads to get the win here for their former coach”, he said in the post-match interview.

Great Olympics moved up into the top four after winning with some matches yet to be played in this week’s round of fixtures.

WAFA 1-1 Asante Kotoko

At the Sogakope Red Bull Arena, Asante Kotoko held WAFA to a 1-1 draw in this matchday nine fixture.

Daniel Lomotey increased his tally to eight goals in the ongoing season as he scored with a beautiful chip to see WAFA take the lead against Asante Kotoko in the 28th minute of the first half.

Asante Kotoko levelled up in the 63rd minute through their marksman Kwame Poku.
It was his sixth goal of the campaign for the Porcupine Warriors in the ongoing season.
Interim Asante Kotoko coach Johnson Smith left the game with his record intact as he is yet to lose to WAFA at the Sogakope Park in the Ghana Premier League.

At the Len Clay Sports Stadium, AshantiGold and Medeama both shared the points as the game ended in a goalless draw after regulation time.

Hearts 2-0 Eleven Wonders

Hearts of Oak continued with their impressive form in the ongoing season as they recorded another home win against Eleven Wonders in this matchday nine fixture.

Goals from Unaf Manaf and Victor Aidoo ensure the Phobians secured all three points against the Techiman based side.

Speaking at the post-match conference, Hearts coach Kosta Papic said he is never impressed with the performance of his team as he expects them to be at their best.
Hearts of Oak have improved tremendously under the Serbian trainer and can be considered as title contenders should their maintain this form throughout the season.

Goal King race
WAFA’s Daniel Lomotey scored a goal in this round of fixtures to increase his tally to eight goals.

He currently leads the race in the ongoing season.
