Does the use of juju, voodoo or witchcraft help teams to win football matches?

It is a question that has been around as long as football has been played on the continent.

In Africa, it has been suggested that, Superstition plays a big part in the lives of many footballers. Some have lucky pairs of underwear that they swear by.

Mallam Bashiru, a spiritualist has given reason why from the era of Asamoah Gyan as the Captain of the Black Stars, Ghana have not be able to win the AFCON.  

In an exclusive interview with Happy FM’s Joseph Nii Ankrah, Bashiru said the Egyptians have been working on Ghana’s all time goal scorer Asamoah Gyan spiritually.

“The Egyptians have done something evil against the black star, they are the main reason why the Black Stars have been without trophy. The Egyptians are troubling us.”

That is why the players cannot play well. Because they worked spiritually against them. And until that evil workings is broken they cannot perform well.

He added that, he met Gyan’s father and told him about the plans of the Egyptians national team against his son. Mallam Bashiru also attributed the iconic skriker recent low performance

“I met Asamoah Gyan’s father at Wenchi and told him that the Egyptians have killed his son It’s only left for him to be buried spiritually. That is why he cannot play well. Because he is the most dangerous player and being the dangerous player, they would want to destroyed him. I have been a coach and a player before. The best player is always destroyed spiritually and so he cannot play well. It’s part of the training.

Asamoah Gyan has been the symbol of the Black Stars the last decade. At 33, he continues to break new barriers to further cement his legendary status.

He holds the record for the most goals by an African in the history of the FIFA World Cup – 6 goals in three editions (2006, 2010, 2014).

His place in the squad for the Total Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2019 was in doubt at some point after a below par season by his standards with Turkish giants Kayserispor, largely due to recurring injuries. But he made the cut after initially declining to make himself available, following an intervention by Ghana President Nana Akufo Addo. He has now been elevated to the position of ‘General Captain’.
