The third edition of the 2020 Kwahu Easter Marathon is set to be held on April 11, 2020, with organizers expecting about 1, 000 participants in this year’s competition.

According to the organizers, this year’s competition has been given a major boost to attract more runners as the prize money has been increased, and kilometres for the race reduced from 42km to 21km.

Speaking at the launch of the event on Tuesday, Edward Kojo Boahen of Medivents Consult explained the rationale in organizing the event, “We wanted a good image for Kwahu after Easter that is why we ventured into the area of sports.
This event is also to promote tourism and sports in the area. The event has the support of all chiefs in the area”.

Chief Operating Officer for Medivent Consult, William Ezear, told the media about the targets set by the organizers for this year’s event.

“We want to unearth talents and develop them for the nation in long distance. The idea is to also promote tourism in Kwahu. We are also targeting to make it one of the best marathons in the country”.

The General Secretary for Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), Fuseini Bawa, stated talks are ongoing to recognize the tournament and make it an international event, “The GAA will recognize the tournament and request the IAAF to give them credence in the future. We are willing to help them get the permit and also recognize the tournament”.

”Last year, KTC sought ways of giving the Kwahu Easter a new image, hence, the introduction of this marathon to give the celebration an international outlook.

For the female division the winner will be awarded Ghc 5,000, second with Ghc 2,500 and last with Ghc 1, 500.

The race will start at the Nkawkaw Goil Filling Station and end at the Kwahu Traditional Council according to the organizers.
