Tanko Bagbara, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ministry of Agriculture has disclosed that the 2023 Best Farmer will be awarded a groundbreaking prize of $1 million.

The revelation comes as part of the Agric Ministry’s efforts to elevate and recognize the significant contributions of farmers to the nation’s food security.

In an exclusive interview with BB Brown on Happy 98.9 FM’s “Epa Hao Daben” during the ongoing 2023 National Farmers Day Celebration & Agric Festival, Tanko Bagbara emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to addressing challenges and fostering a resilient agricultural sector.

He indicated that the unprecedented $1 million prize for the Best Farmer serves as a testament to the government’s dedication to recognizing and rewarding excellence in agriculture.

The National Farmers Day Celebration and Agric Festival, now in its 39th edition, is a platform to honour the hard work and dedication of farmers who play a crucial role in ensuring food sufficiency throughout the year. The event is organized by the Ministries of Food and Agriculture and Fisheries and Aquaculture Development.

Scheduled to culminate on Friday, December 1, 2023, in the Western Region, this year’s National Farmers Day Celebration carries the theme “Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience.” The theme reflects the ongoing challenges faced by farmers, including climate change, post-harvest losses, high input costs, and low returns on investment.

As the festivities continue, AGRIFEST 2023 provides a platform for farmers, stakeholders, and the public to engage in discussions, exhibitions, and demonstrations aimed at promoting innovation and sustainable practices within the agricultural sector. The awarding of the $1 million prize is expected to add an extra layer of excitement and motivation for farmers across the nation.
