Ghana Athletics (GA) has officially announced the withdrawal of Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team from the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

This decision comes after two of the team’s key athletes, James Dadzie and Joseph Paul Amoah, sustained serious injuries during the 200-meter heats held yesterday.

James Dadzie experienced a setback about 80 meters into the race when he pulled his hamstring, resulting in a grade II tear in the bicep femoris muscle of his left hamstring.

Meanwhile, Joseph Amoah, who had been performing exceptionally in the 200m, encountered a sudden and unexpected pop sensation accompanied by intense pain in the lateral front side of his right foot.

A subsequent x-ray scan revealed a small fracture at the base of his right big toe.

Considering the prioritization of athlete well-being and safety by both World Athletics and GA, the organization has taken the difficult decision to withdraw James Dadzie and Joseph Paul Amoah from the championships.

GA’s stance is in alignment with consultations held with the Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif.

The organization firmly believes that the best course of action for the athletes’ careers is to discontinue their participation in the championships and instead focus on receiving proper medical treatment and support.

While the withdrawal is disappointing for both the athletes and their fans, GA expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and emphasized the importance of rallying behind James and Joseph as they embark on their journey to recovery.

The organization has called for prayers and support from the entire sporting community for the swift recuperation of the two athletes.
