A 23-year-old woman, Akua Afriyie, has confessed to deliberately killing her four-year-old son in Karlo, a community in the Suaman District of the Western Region, in a shocking attempt to meet the demands of a man she intended to marry.

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, July 21, 2025.

According to police reports, Afriyie, who had recently returned to Karlo after being away for several years, revealed that her romantic partner had made their future marriage conditional, insisting he would not marry her if she had any children.

Desperate to secure the relationship, Afriyie threw her young son into a well, ending his life.

The Assembly Member for Karlo Electoral Area, Eric Armah, told reporters that the woman confessed during police interrogation. Disturbingly, reports indicate that the child pleaded for his life before he was killed.

The body of the child has been retrieved and deposited at the Enchi Government Hospital morgue, while police investigations continue.

The horrifying case has left residents of Karlo in disbelief, sparking calls for justice and psychological evaluation of the suspect.
