The 39th National Farmers’ Day celebration is ongoing, at the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, Western Region.

The occasion will be climaxed with a plush dinner for the celebrants and awardees with the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as the guest of honour.

Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Agriculture, Tanko Bagbara, indicated that they have made agriculture very attractive for the youth.

He stressed that the ministry is working towards mechanized agriculture, adding that they are ready to deploy enough resources to boost agriculture.

“This year’s agriculture will be made dignified, corporate, and attractive for the youth. The ministry is looking at a mechanized form of agriculture with efficiency. An era of Smart farming is the way forward. We are looking for smart solutions effectively and efficiently; reduce drudgery that our great-grandfathers deployed. It may be a reason the youth never want to get involved! Planting for Food and Jobs Phase II is the clear path, that yes. All can be involved in hiring labourers. Mechanization and smart farming are the way forward. The Ministry of Agric is ready to deploy enough resources; agriculture will be made easy for the youth,” he stated.

The Public Relations Officer of the Agric Ministry says long-term plans are in place to have Ghana generate its “own fertilizer to stop importations.”

He assured that fertilizer will be affordable and available to Ghanaian farmers.

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture on November 24 announced the closure of roads linked to the Ministerial enclave in Accra ahead of the annual National Farmers’ Day celebrations on December 1.
Affected roads included the Ridge Roundabout through the Principal Streets of Parliament House, Independence Square, the John Evans Alta Mills Court Complex, and the Principal Streets of the National Theatre.

The event, which began on Monday, November 27th and will end today Friday, December 1st, 2023, is dubbed “Agrifest Ghana 2023.”

In a statement issued by the Ministry, it advised users of the affected road to find alternative parking spots and routes to ensure compliance with the directive.
