Coach Afranie deserved better than an ambulance- Mohammed Polo bemoans

Former Ghana international Mohammed Ahmed Polo has expressed disgust about the untimely death of E.k Afranie.

The former Kumasi Asante Kotoko was struck down with a mild stroke some few weeks back and had been admitted at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

However, reports propagated in the early hours of today that the ambulance in which he was being conveyed in from Accra to the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital got involved in a fatal accident on the Bonsu road which caused his untimely demise.

This has triggered reaction from Mohammed Polo to question why his ailing body was not flown to Kumasi for treatment due to the services he rendered to the nation and instead transported by road.

“I’m shocked at his sudden death,” Polo said on Happy FM.

“He’s one of the few coaches to have coached all the national teams at every level, including even the women’s team, and I think he’s the first coach to qualify the women’s team to their maiden World Cup therefore, such a man’s job cannot be quantified because of the services he contributed to the growth of football in this country.”

“So, it beats my imagination that with all his achievements for this country, if such a man is sick and he’s to be transported to Kumasi for proper treatment, I think better arrangements could have been done than putting him in an ambulance to meet this ill-timed death, I believe it’s not in a step in the right direction. Better arrangement to fly him to Kumasi could have saved the poor man’s life.”
