No party should explain Odododiodio violence; it is needless - Former MCE

Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akuapem North, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has said that no deliberation should be given to the Odododiodio constituency violence more than the issue deserves.

According to him, giving so much attention to this issue will impress on the perpetrators of these violent acts to think that what they engaged in is a normal aspect of our lives, which in reality is not the case.

He told Kwame Afrifa Mensah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, “This is happening in only the Odododiodio constituency. No party should come and explain. It is needless. Immediately you do that, you are making the offenders think the political parties will be throwing punches at each other.

Violence knows no language and we need to change our actions. Pandemonium knows no NPP or NDC. This is not something we need to talk about. Why are the Odododiodio constituents thinking NPP and NDC cannot co-exist? This is sad.

To him, the Odododiodio incidence is an isolated one. “We should not be deceived that violence is taking place all over the country. In the other regions, campaigners are being civil ”.

He advised that going into the elections, the contest should be about ideas and manifestos and not a physical contest.

A peace walk by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) turned violent in Jamestown in the Odododiodio constituency on Sunday morning.

In a number of video clips widely shared on social media platforms, it showed supporters of the two main parties throwing bottles as well as hauling stones and insults at each other.

Meanwhile the Ghana Police Service has released the list of election violence-prone areas in all sixteen regions of the country. The Odododiodio constituency has been identified as one of the flashpoints going into the 2020 elections.
