The government of Ghana as part of efforts to reduce the housing deficit in the country has plans far advanced to construct some thousand (1000) homes in the Ashanti Region.

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the State Housing Company (SHC), the construction of these homes in Kumasi will start in November 2020.

Kwabena Ampofo Appiah made this known in an interview on Happy 98.9FM’s Epa Hoa Daben political talk show with Afrifa-Mensa.

“In the last four (4) years with very little capital injection, we have built over 700 homes around the country. In November, we’re starting another one thousand (1000) housing project in Kumasi alone”.

The State Housing CEO furthered that the state housing project has now evolved from the piloting stages to the take-off stage and will see more homes built in addition to the already existing ones.

“We have developed the housing policy and tested the market with it. We are no more going to do any testing but we are now focusing on implementation”.

Kwabena Ampofo Appiah motioned that the focus of the State Housing Company is to develop housing projects on a mass scale to hurriedly resolve the housing deficit in the country.

He furthered that his outfit has housing projects in every region in the country and promised that in a short while, these projects will be on a district basis.

Ghana has a huge housing deficit, which has risen over the years, especially in urban areas.

Despite an annual supply of about 40,000 housing units, the country is unable to meet the annual demand of some 70,000 homes each year, and the housing deficit has now exceeded two million housing units.
