Former Minister for National Security Mr. Francis Poku, has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) James Oppong Boanuh, for introducing a special identification armband for security personnel who will be deployed for electoral duties on December 7.

According to him, this initiative by the IGP shows that he cares about the peace and security of all Ghanaians.

Speaking in an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, he reasoned that the IGP introduced this initiative based on past occurrences that may have reduced public confidence in the police.

“Anyone who has been put in charge of the Ghana Police Service must always ensure that what concerns Ghanaians when it comes to security is addressed. It all boils down to public confidence. If there was no precedent, the IGP would not have put all these measures in place. What the IGP seeks to do is to give assurance to Ghanaians that the police will do all they can to ensure peace and security in the 2020 elections. So these measures have been put in place because of what has happened before. This is to boost the public’s confidence in the police.

On this note, I will commend the IGP for this measure put in place and other measures he is set to put in place. It is evident that he is thinking about Ghanaians and he is thinking about the peace of the country. It is in the right direction”, he said.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) James Oppong Boanuh said security personnel who will be deployed for electoral duties on December 7 will be provided with a special identification armband as this will help identify persons who impersonate.

On December 7, 2020, Ghanaians will go to the polls to elect a President and 275 Parliamentarians to govern the nation for the next four years.
