The spokesperson for the National Democratic Congress on Health, Dr. Jehu Appiah has asserted that reports of Ghana ranking high in the management of COVID-19 has caused complacency in Ghanaians so much that, adherence to safety protocols has been abandoned.

Speaking to Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, he said: “I am worried. We were told that Ghana was doing well in COVID-19 management. We were told that we were the first in Africa and third in the world; bringing complacency in all Ghanaians. And telling us as if we are out of the woods. We always cautioned that it is not time to celebrate anything. That was the time we needed to strengthen our resolve to follow the protocols. But what are we seeing? We are failing big time”.

Dr.Jehu suggested that there should be less focus on media stories that put Ghana in the light of performing well on the management of COVID-19. “Let’s be careful with this type of analysis. Most of these things that are published are engineered by people”, he added.

President Nana Akufo-Addo in his 19th address on the measures taken against COVID-19 made it known that Ghanaians have let their guards down when it comes to adhering to the protocols.

“We have observed a gradual change in the trajectory of the virus, with an increase in active cases from the three hundred and ninety-eight (398) cases recorded three weeks ago, to one thousand, one hundred and thirty-nine (1,139) active cases, as at Friday, 6th November 2020. The total number of deaths now stands at three hundred and twenty (320)”, the President said.

Meanwhile, Ghana has been praised for its management of the COVID-19 pandemic.
