2020/21 GPL Week 1 Round-Up: Eleven Wonders hold ‘unimpressive’ Asante Kotoko in Accra

Asante Kotoko were held to a 1-1 draw game by Eleven Wonders at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors with their star studded squad failed to impress in their opening game against Eleven Wonders.

Kwame Poku broke the deadlock for the Porcupine Warriors and  scored his first goal for the club in the 54th minute.

Eleven Wonders came close to getting the equalizer through Jonah Ayitey but his effort went off target.

Felix Annan produced a beautiful save in the 58th minute to deny Eleven Wonders from getting the equalizer.

Eleven Wonders finally got the equalizer in the 75th minute through Prince Okraku as he hit a low drive to the right corner of the post far from the reach of Kotoko goalkeeper Felix Annan.

Asante Kotoko were left off the hook as they could have lost the game by a five-goal margin if Wonders had taken their chances.

AshGold 2-2 Karela United

At the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium, Karela United held AshantiGold SC to a 2-2 draw in this match day one fixture.

Karela United scored first in the game through Diawiase Taylor in the opening minutes of the game. The miners quickly responded as Appiah McCarthy scored from a free kick to get the home side the equalizer.

Hans Kwoffie put the home side in the lead with the second goal of the game for AshGold. The AshGold captain headed in a cross to score his first goal of the campaign.

Richard Berko rescued Karela United from defeat with his goal in the second half.

Medeama 1-1 Great Olympics

Elsewhere, Great Olympics also picked a vital point away at the Akoon Park against Medeama.

Yusif Ali was on target for Medeama whilst Michael Yeboah got the equalizer for Great Olympics.

WAFA 4-3 King Faisal

The game at the Sogakope Red Bull Arena produced a seven goal thriller as WAFA defeated King Faisal 4-3 in this match day one fixture.

A brace from Daniel Lomotey, Godwin Agbevor, Konadu Yiadom saw the academy lads secure their first win of the season. Kwame Peprah was on target for King Faisal in this game.

Legon Cities 1-1 Berekum Chelsea

Legon Cities drew against Berekum Chelsea in the opening game of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season on Saturday. Both sides scored from the penalty spot.

Jonah Attoquay scored first for Legon Cities before Stephen Amankona got the equalizer for Berekum Chelsea.
