NADMO lauds gov’t for NBSSI support package for Circle-Odawna Market fire victims

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has praised Government for its promise of a support package for victims of the Odawna Market fire yesterday.

President Nana Akufo-Addo visited the Odawna market to solidarize with the traders who lost their wares and stalls in the fire outbreak early Wednesday morning. According to him, through the NBSSI, support is going to be provided to the over 3,000 persons affected by the fire, within two weeks.

Reacting to this news, Communications Director of NADMO, George Ayisi told Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show: “The President has visited them and made known that he will make the NBSSI help them. We at NADMO are very happy about this. If you listen to the market people, they are saying that they need more of the investments in their jobs instead of the rice and oils that NADMO will present to them”.

According to George, NADMO has been mandated to offer relief items rather than offer business support in times of disaster. Thus, while the Organization is unable to recapitalize these businesses, it is pleased that the Government has taken such initiative.

The Odawna Market at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, also known as the Pedestrian Shopping Mall caught fire on the dawn of Wednesday, 18th November, 2020.

Hundreds of stalls with thousands of Cedis worth of goods were lost in the fire.
