The President for the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Kwabena Yeboah, says the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Asante Kotoko should be able to settle the ongoing impasse peacefully for the betterment of the game.

According to the veteran sports journalist, it was needles for the GFA to issue that directive to prevent Premier League clubs from recording their matches for educational purposes.

The GFA statement indicated that clubs filming their home games are in breach of their contractual agreement with StarTimes, official broadcast right holders of the Ghana Premier League.

The directive had been issued after Asante Kotoko ‘s usage of the VEO technology in their opening league game against Techiman Eleven Wonders at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Asante Kotoko in response to the letter from the GFA demanded a copy of the contractual agreement with StarTimes to determine if they were in breach of any clause.

The Porcupine Warriors also gave the FA an ultimatum to produce the contract or they refund the StarTimes sponsorship money of $5000 in order to allow them record their games using the VEO technology.

The impending tussle between the GFA and Asante Kotoko also led to the fans planning a boycott of StarTimes products should the FA take a firm stand on its earlier decision.

According to Kwabena Yeboah, Ghana Football has suffered in recent times and it needless for this banter at this particular time when the FA is trying to win back the love.

“I think the banter between the GFA and Kotoko is needless. It shouldn’t have gotten to this point. I do not think it was necessary for the GFA to prevent Kotoko or any club to film their matches for technical reasons -Kwabena Yeboah told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy 98.9FM.

“I am hoping that on Monday during the meeting, maturity and a great sense of understanding will guide the meeting”, he added.
