A member of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) legal team, Alex Segbefia, has said that there is a need for the NDC to adopt an effective strategy in its election petition as it only has 42 days of trial period unlike the NPP’s ten months trial period in 2012.

In an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, he explained: “We were very mindful of the fact that it took us almost ten months to deal with a petition in 2012. The court has put out forty-two (42) days as the trial period for this case which means we don’t have the luxury that the NPP had in 2012 so we must be very strategic in the kind of case you put forward which will get you the results you require”.

He noted that NDC has decided to “simplify the issue as much as possible for the Supreme Court to deal with”.

He furthered that fortunately the Electoral Commission has made an erroneous declaration with flawed figures which allows the EC’s system that was used this time to be questioned.

Former President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have petitioned the Supreme Court to annul the results of Election 2020. Mr. Mahama also wants the apex court to order for a re-run of the polls hence the need to issue a fiat restraining President Akufo-Addo from holding himself as the President-elect.

As announced by the Supreme Court, any electoral dispute that will arise from the 2020’s presidential election will be determined by the Supreme Court within 42 days

In 2012, the NPP filed a petition at the Supreme Court to challenge former President John Mahama’s victory in the 2012 elections. After ten months of trial period, the apex court dismissed the election petition against Mr.Mahama.
