President Akufo-Addo has called on newly elected members of the 8th Parliament to work together in the interest of Ghanaians, putting aside their partisan colours.

Delivering the last State of the Nation Address (SONA) to end his tenure of office, the President indicated that the results of the December 7 parliamentary elections is a clear indication Ghanaians want the two parliamentary divides to work together.

Addressing the nation, the President said, “Mr Speaker the next Parliament won’t be anything like this one which ends tomorrow. I do not suggest that it is not going to be busy, but the sitting arrangement, decibel levels of sounds from the House will certainly be different.

The good people of Ghana have spoken and given Parliament an almost equal strength on both sides of the House. We have no choice but to work with the consequences of the desires of the people.”

Out of the 275 seats in Parliament, the Electoral Commission announced that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has 137 seats with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) also having 137 seats and an independent candidate occupying one seat.
