President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says he may be forced to put Ghana under another lockdown if the country’s COVID-19 cases keeps on increasing exponentially.

According to the President, regardless of the possible lockdown having a negative impact on the country’s economy, he will be forced to do so if that is the only way to keep the nation safe.

Ghana’s COVID-19 cases have seen a sharp rise and this is mainly due to the complete disregard to COVID-19 safety protocols.

Ghana’s active case count currently stands at 1,404.

The Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions continue to lead with cumulative high numbers of COVID-19 related cases; 31,953 and 11,285 respectively.

40 persons are in severe conditions with four persons in a critical state.

For active cases, the Greater Accra tops with 714 while the International travellers at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) follow with 417.

Ghana has had a total of 56,981 cases and 55,236 discharges

The President in his 22nd address to the nation said after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic said;

“We do not want to go back to the days of partial lockdowns which had a negative impact on our economy and way of life but should that become necessary and should the number of active cases continue to increase at the current rate, I will have no option than to reimpose these restrictions because it is better to be safe than to be sorry so together let us all ensure that we respect the protocols”.
