Minister-designate for Tourism, Art and Culture, Mr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, has proposed to put up a studio, worth 20 million dollars to make Ghana a hub for film making in West Africa

The proposed studio is aimed at building and strengthening Ghana’s cultural heritage by giving prominence to our local content through film, music and art.

” We want to set up the studio …to help us put up Ghanaian movies, series so that the prime time on TV will not be westernised. We’ll ensure that at least 70% is local content. This will make Ghana a hub for film making in West Africa.”

He further stated that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is considering a partnership with private entities to find the 20 million dollar studio.

” The 20 million dollars ( studio) will be privately funded. We want to look at partnership with the private sector” _ He said this during his vetting at the Parliamentary Ministerial Appointment.

Mr Awal also expressed his hopes of collaborating with other governmental Ministries to improve old tourist sites as well as discovering new ones in the country.

“Tourism as a culture is an integrated sector. It is inter-ministerial and we need inter-ministerial collaboration. I am going to work collaboratively with my colleagues, when given the nod, to improve not only the old tourist sites but look for new ones and improve upon them for tourist attractions in the country”.
