MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has stated he is still in charge of National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs in Parliament.

The minority caucus is going through crisis moment as MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, resigns from his position as a member of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, citing personal reasons and on principle.

“This was after days of careful reflection and thoughtful considerations,” the NDC legislator said in a 30 March letter to the Speaker, Alban Bagbin.

“I shall like to state that the reasons for this difficult decision is both personal and on principle,” Ablakwa added.

He said his resignation from the 26-member committee takes immediate effect.

“May I extend to you leadership of the House, the Committee of Selection and the leadership of the great National Democratic Congress (NDC), my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to serve as a member of the 6th, 7th and 8th Parliaments of the Republic of Ghana,” the letter concluded.

However, reacting to the development after the meeting and whether there will be leadership changes within the minority in Parliament, Iddrisu said: “Not at all, I am fully in charge. I am the Minority Leader, this morning, I have engaged with the party leadership and Council of Elders.”

“We look forward to cooperation and collaboration but let not anybody exaggerate that I have more than what I have which is known parametrically and numerically. The party has any time, we have discussed this with the caucus, and Parliament to make determination of that matter. Don’t forget that I am in parliament in my own right as the elected Member of Parliament for Tamale South”.
