The Greater Accra Regional (GAR) Minister, Henry Quartey has shared that the Regional Coordinating Council together with the Ministry of Interior will crack down on all persons who dare venture to beach fronts during the Easter festivities.

He noted that the directive on the closure of beaches is one which has been put in place to protect the citizenry from contracting the virus, and admitted his surprise at the disregard for it.

Fearing the spread of the virus this festive season, Henry Quartey in an interview on the Happy Morning Show, hosted by Raymond Nyamador and aired on e.TV Ghana and Happy FM said, “This Easter, as the head of the Regional Coordinating Council, we have collaborated with the Ministry of Interior to ensure beaches are closed to prevent the regular crowds from trooping to there. We are not in normal times now and we need to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols. We will have men from the Ghana Police Service and other Security Agencies patrolling these beaches to ensure the ban on beaches is enforced”.

According to him, anyone who is seen on beach fronts during the Easter festivities will be arrested and prosecuted.

He admitted that COVID-19 protocols were not being respected fully but, hopefully, that will change with time.

“At the begining of everything you don’t get it at a 100 percent but I know as time progresses, the compliance will be a 100 percent”.

The Minister commended and further appealed to the Ministry of Health and the Information Services Department to increase their education efforts on the virus. “Compliance to COVID-19 safety protocols is gradually improving and we expect to improve more”.
