Ghanaian Football Legend, Joe Sam has revealed to Happy 98.9FM that he left Asante Kotoko after being accused of bribery.

Joe Sam played for the Porcupine Warriors in the late 1970’s and 80 before leaving the club.

According to him, he was accused of taking bribes in a game against arch-rivals Hearts of Oak which informed his decision to quit the club.

Speaking in an interview on Happy 98.9FM Where Are They program, he said,

“The bribery allegation was in 1977 we played against Asec in Africa and scored them 2-1 in Kumasi. In the return leg at Bouake we lost 1-0 and exited the competition.

“After our return to Kumasi, we were supposed to play Hearts in mid-week. Even in that game, I didn’t play and that was what happened. After the allegation, I was really disturbed so I decided to leave. After the Champion of Champions I came back to Sekondi and later left for America”.

“My last match for Asante Kotoko was against Hearts of Oak in the Champion of Champions at the Kumasi Sports Stadium”.

Joseph Sam also revealed that during his time as a footballer he used to work for the Bank of Ghana.
Sam was part of Ghana’s team at the Olympic Games in 1972.
