The Father of one of the young men who were at the centre of the enrollment scandal at the Achimota School, Tereo Marhguy has reacted to an appeal from the school against the court ruling that mandated them to admit his son.
According to him he knew it was only a matter of time before the school appealed the court ruling.

“When we went to the school before the entire case surrounding Tyrone’s admission, the headteacher encouraged us to go to court. She boasted the school had won similar cases in court and that ours will be no different. But because they lost, they are now appealing the case,” he shared.
He believes the school authorities have no problem with his son wearing dreadlocks but old students of the school are the ones pulling the strings.
In an interview with Happy98.9FM’s Don Kwabena Prah on the Epa Hoa Daben political talk show, Tereo Marhguy indicated, “I think the school is not the problem but the old students are. They are living on past glory and that is it. They just want things to be done their way.”
Per his account, the Attorney General supported families of the two Rastafarian boys refused admission by Achimota and argues old students of the school had forced his (AG’s) hand.
“The AG said no appeal will be filed against the initial ruling but he’s now supporting the school and it is surprising. We are however not fearful and believe the initial ruling in our favor will not be overturned.”
Achimota School and the Attorney-General’s office have filed an appeal challenging the High Court’s order for the school to admit dreadlock-wearing student, Tyrone Marhguy.
According to the school, the court among others erred by indicating that the rules and regulations of Achimota School with regard to ensuring uniformity in appearance is unlawful and interferes with the manifestation of one’s religious rights.

The school, therefore, urged the Appeals Court to set the entire judgment that orders it to admit the student aside, and the plaintiff ordered to comply with the school’s regulations if he chooses to be a student of the school.
Meanwhile, the Attorney-General’s office has also filed an appeal on the case, asking the court to uphold Achimota School’s arguments and rule in favour of the school.
