Information Technology (IT) Consultant, Dr. Kofi Annan has propagated the need to educate the general public on the internet and its uses.

According to him education is a part of the act of understanding the policies of cyber security, and implementing them.

He enlightened viewers and listeners in an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show (#HappyHMS) aired on e. TV Ghana and Happy 98.9FM.

“We’re saying that some of the recommendation is that there must be a conscious effort in educating people on the proper use of the internet.”

He explains how the internet was created for a small group of people to use in their research work and later when they realized it was good, they adapted it to the world for use.

“The first thing to know about the internet is that it can be used to learn and then from there, other things come on board like entertainment. But not for other things that can endanger your life by sending some of these pornographic content,” he said.

He shared how some individuals leak content for fun without realizing the impact it may be having on others. Thus, the need to educate people to refrain from such acts.

He bemoans how people hack the accounts of individual online without their consent. “Some easily give their passwords out especially during zoom meetings and this leads to zoom bombing as intruders join to disrupt the meeting, while some attend to find certain contents or statement said during the meeting to use against the host,” he cried out.

He advises that these issues need to be addressed by educating women and the general public so they do not endanger their lives and family as they use the internet.
