Three public figures have found themselves in hot waters, following actions they have taken in the last few days, which police said posed threat and danger to society.

The trio Charles Nii Armah Mensah, also known as Shatta Wale, Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng,  aka Funny Face and, Samuel Frimpong, popularly known as Medika have been remanded into police custody.

Shatta Wale

The Circuit Court in Accra remanded Shatta Wale into police custody for one week.

This was after Shatta Wale pleaded not guilty to one charge count to wit; Publication of false news that caused fear and panic in the public domain.

Three others who appeared in court with him Kojo Owusu Koranteng, Shatta’s Personal Assistant, Eric Vanetor, a graphic designer, and Iddrisu Yussif, a beautician were charged for abetment of criminal publication of false news.

Funny Face

Funny Face was ordered by a Kaneshie District Court to seek medical examination after he was in police custody for some days.

Funny Face has been charged with one count of threat of death.

The comedian’s presence in court comes after his arrest for threatening to kill the mother of his twin daughters and a promise to commit suicide after the act.

Even though the charge was read to him in court, his plea has been reserved pending a report on his mental health.
Prosecution led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Slyvester Asare also pleaded with the court for an order for Funny Face’s body fluid to be taken for a substance abuse examination.

The brief facts of the case as presented by ASP Asare were that the accused, Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng known as Funny Face is a Comedian, Actor, and musician by profession who resides at Sector, millennium city, Kasoa.

He said the accused person was married to one Lizzy but divorced in 2017. The prosecution said in 2020, the accused person got engaged to one Vanessa and had twins with her.

Per the facts, in February 2021, Vanessa fled with the twins after they broke up to an unknown destination.

After his ex-wife absconded, the accused person took to his Instagram page and threatened to kill his ex-wife Lizzy and girlfriend Vanessa and commit suicide afterward.

“Accused person in his caution statement blamed the action on depression and his failure to take his drugs given to him when he was sent to the psychiatric hospital for treatment.
“Prosecution suspects the accused person is mentally unstable and pleading with this Honourable Court to give an order for the accused to be re-examined,” the prosecutor said.

Medikal

Medikal has also been remanded to prison custody for five days.

This was the ruling of a Circuit Court judge in Accra on October 22, 2021, on the artiste’s first appearance in court for brandishing a weapon.

Medikal, who has been charged with the display of arms and ammunition, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

At the hearing on Friday, counsel for the Ghanaian rapper, Emmanuel Yeboah Gyan, prayed the court to grant his client bail as he is a law-abiding citizen and had family on standby to meet the bail conditions.

But the prosecution opposed the plea, arguing that the individual rights of Medikal to bail are subservient to the community interest, which ought to be protected. He further argued that parts of the case are still under investigation.

Presiding Judge, Emmanuel Esandoh, sided with the prosecution and remanded Medikal to the Ankaful prison in the Central Region for five days.

Medikal who was at the court premises a day ago offer support to Shatta Wale will be spending five days in Ankaful Medium prison in the Central Region with his colleague and friend Shatta Wale who took the lead yesterday.
