Deputy Editor for the Citizen Newspaper, Nutifafa Adovo, has advised that while the ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ is a laudable initiative, it will be much ado about nothing if measures are not put in place to sustain it.

He observed that many politicians have introduced initiatives in the past. However, without sustainability, these good policies ceased to operate.

Nutifafa was speaking in an interview with Sefah-Danquah on the ‘Special Editor’s Take’ edition of the Happy Morning Show aired on e.TV Ghana and Happy 98.9FM.

“Politicians always have laudable programmes and policies but the sustainability has become problematic. This is a lingering problem because we start with a lot of funfairs as we launch the programmes but the ability to sustain these laudable initiatives has been problematic since time immemorial. And if this initiative will become successful then we will have to sustain the programme and make sure this programme will achieve its results.”

Meanwhile, the editor has stressed that the Greater Accra Regional Minister must be commended for this initiative as “this will go a long way in making Accra as the President envisaged it, the cleanest city in Africa.”

The government of Ghana has launched the ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ initiative for the Greater Accra Region.

It expects to deploy over 3,500 people to implement sanitation bye-laws under the ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ initiative.

The policy by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council seeks to make it obligatory for all individuals and corporate entities to be responsible for the cleaning and greening of their immediate surroundings.

The necessary by-laws have been passed and gazetted by the 29 Assemblies in the Greater Accra Region to enable the lawful implementation of the initiative.
