Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Ghana International Thomas Partey is facing some time on the sidelines after picking up an injury in training last Thursday.

Partey who has become very important to both club and country is said to have picked the groin injury when he was cluttered by a teammate in a training game.

The situation was so bad that Partey was excluded from Arsenal’s matchday squad in their 1-0 victory over Watford on Sunday.

Speaking before the game, Arteta said “ Partey will have a scan and then we will see the extent of his injury”.

The news will be worrying for his club but more importantly, it will come as a big blow to Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac as his side prepares for two crucial World Cup qualifying games against Ethiopia and South Africa.

Ghana needs a minimum of 4 points when they play Ethiopia on Thursday, November 11 and then South Africa in Cape Coast on November 14.

Those two games will determine if the Black Stars will top their group as one of 10 group winners who will go into the final play-off round to determine which five countries will represent Africa at the next World Cup.

Milovan had earlier named Partey as part of his 28-man squad for the games but with this injury, it waits to be seen if he will replace the Arsenal star with another player.

The Serbian has won all two games since his appointment a few weeks ago.
