GFA introduces two new competitions for 2021/22 football season

The Ghana Football Association (GFA), has launched two new competitions; the Women’s Premier League Super Cup and the U-17 Inter Clubs Champions League tournament for the 2021/22 football season.

The two competitions were launched at the GFA Headquarters on Thursday, November 18, 2021 as part of efforts to develop women’s football and juvenile football.

Speaking during the launch of the competitions, GFA General Secretary, Lawyer Prosper Harrison Addo said, “We are excited because these are areas we believe if we invest we will see to the development of our game. For us, if we put money to the grassroots we are assured of talents for the future”.

The Chairperson for The Women’s Premier Super Cup competition, Barbara Ayise mentioned that their core mandate is to ensure the program becomes a success. She appealed for more sponsors to come onboard in other to motivate the players.

The tournament will be held at the Madina Astroturf park from November 25-5 December 2021.

Eight teams will participate in the preseason tournament with the winner taking home Ghc 15,000. The second and third place teams will receive 8,000 and 5,000 respectively.

On the new juvenile football competition called the KGL U-17 Inter-Club Champions League, 12 clubs will participate in the tournament which kicks off on December 6, 2021.

The Vice-Chairman of the U-17 Inter-Clubs Champions League, Kudjoe Fiano commended the GFA President for his efforts in reviving Juvenile football.

“This is the first time we have seen an FA President having an interest in Juvenile football rather than deciding to head the Black Stars.

“We as a team cannot let the GFA and Ghanaians down. I want to assure them that they are going to derive maximum benefit from this.

KGL Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Elliot Adade said the Foundation is dedicated to the empowerment of the youth through education, sports among others.

The tournament kicks off on December 5.
