Chairman of the movement for Bawumia, Duncan Opoku Boateng (Bombay), says the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is against campaign billboards of himself springing up in the Ashanti region ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) delegates conference.

On his accord, the office of the Vice President has issued strong warnings to persons using his image and name to campaign as an aspiring flagbearer of the party.

Describing the Vice President as an individual with high regard for rules and regulations, and especially party directives, Bombay asserts he (Veep) will not contravene party directives.

Numerous billboards associated with internal party contests, parliamentary and presidential primaries sprung up ahead of the NPP delegates conference to be held in the Ashanti Region from 18th to 20th December, 2021, including that of the Vice President.

The leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has banned all activities associated these billboards, as well as the display of paraphernalia and advocacy for aspirants at the party’s upcoming National Annual Delegates Conference to be held in Kumasi.

The party’s Director of Communications, Yaw Buaben Asamoa in a statement indicated that the National Steering Committee of the Party took the decision at a meeting held on Thursday, December 9, 2021, acting under Article 10 (10) (1) of the Constitution of the Party and in furtherance of the Code of Conduct issued under Article 18.

In an interview on the Epa Hoa Daben political talk show with Happy98.9FM’s Don Kwabena Prah, Bombay stated, “The movement for Bawumia is not responsible for the mounting of these billboards and it is strange to see this happen. Even the Vice President himself is unhappy with people campaigning on his behalf. Ever since the party issued the directive for an end to these unsanctioned campaigns, we have not undertaken any campaign.”

Asked why the billboards of Dr. Bawumia have not been taken down as others are doing, Bombay revealed that until the office of the Vice President gives him that command to destroy any campaign-associated billboard, he will not move an inch.
