E-Levy: Town hall meeting a sign of Ghana’s democracy – Mahama
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo (Pablo), has stated that the opposition NDC will make the country unmanageable for the ruling government through series of demonstrations if they dare pass the e-levy into law.

He described the e-levy as a draconian and retrogressive tax “which we will not accept. We will not accept the e-levy no matter the form it comes in.”

In an interview with Happy98.9FM’s Don Kwabena Prah on the Epa Hoa Daben political talk show, Pablo stated, “if the government goes ahead to pass the e-levy we will do everything in our power to make this country ungovernable through mass protests because we will not accept the e-levy. No matter the percentage reduction on the e-levy we will not accept it to be passed.”

The politician found it difficult to classify the e-levy and asked, “We don’t even know where to place the e-levy. Is it an income tax, sales tax, excise tax VAT or what is it?” He added the e-levy was also going to tax the capital of Ghanaians describing it as theft. “I agree online transactions must be taxed when they are commercial but that’s it.”

The opposition NDC is set to hit the streets according to the National Youth Organizer, George Opare Addo. He announced plans for the said protest via his Twitter handle.

His post read;

“Activism begins with you, democracy begins with you, get out there, get active! Tag, you’re it.” – Thom Hartmann.

This is a call to demonstrate our strongest opposition to this draconian levy. You can’t be left out! This is our collective fight!! Details soon #Yentua
