We’ve not abandoned inherited hospital projects from the NDC – Health Minister highlights development in the sector

Hon. Kwaku Agyeman Manu, Minister for Health, has pinpointed the developmental projects that have so far been accomplished under his watch as sector minister amidst the unfavorable impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He mentioned that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) inherited several uncompleted health infrastructures from the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, these projects across the length and breadth of the country have all been completed with funds from donors of the Covid 19 trust fund.

Notable ones included the construction and operationalization of the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), the rehabilitation of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge, the rehabilitation of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, and the construction of 10 Polyclinics in the Central Region among several developments across the country.

“I wouldn’t say the previous NDC government didn’t do well but their efforts were not enough. We inherited a number of uncompleted projects. Now they won’t be able to ask us to show ‘one’ health infrastructure we have built because we have a lot of the to prove. Now the University of Ghana Medical center has been completed and we have started operationalizing the place in stages. Both phases 1 and 2 have all been completed in their entirety. The Ridge hospital phase 1 has also been completed and we are working very hard to complete phase 2.

Then the Tamale Hospital phase 2 was inherited after the contractor couldn’t complete it and abandoned the site so we brought a new person online and got the facility running. We also came to meet 10 polyclinics in the Central Region that have not been completed and were at the various stages of construction. We ensured that we completed them all,” these the stated.

The Health Minister urged Ghanaians to disregard any information that suggested that the construction of health facilities in the country has been abandoned and pledges to ensure further developments in the health sector.
