A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, Afrifa Yamoah Ponko, has alleged the Ghana Police led by George Akuffo Dampare (IGP) is being biased in the execution of their mandate.

To him, the Police is supposed to be middlemen in ensuring peace and security but have instead become selective in the execution of their duties.

“If you listen to what the people are saying about the conduct of the IGP and Police as a whole, you will know that they are embarking on selective justice. The IGP is simply overhyped and they are being biased based on reasons best known to them,” he stated.

He made this statement in relation to a Police invitation to Abronye DC following his allegation in an interview that former President Mahama has met with the Al Qaeda militants in an attempt to stage a coup in Ghana.

According to Yamoah Ponkoh, most people, especially journalists who have been arrested in recent times did not receive any such courtesy from the police, especially as they spoke against the ruling government, a sign he calls questionable.

In an interview with Don Kwabena Prah on Happy98.9FM’s Epa Hoa Daben political talk show, Yamoah Ponkoh said, “A radio presenter said something on radio and you sent squad cars to go and pick him up but when someone else accuses a former President of something grave as he being in bed with the Al Qaeda, then you invite them to the Police station instead of picking them up.”

To him, the actions of the Ghana Police is wrong as he claims they may be compromised “and are using state power for themselves. What Abronye DC said is serious but because he thinks he is untouchable he says and does anything he wants and goes scot-free.
