Communication Team Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Haruna Amalibah, says President Akufo-Addo has lived up to claims of he (Akufo-Addo) leading Ghana to a dark place.

He mentioned Ghana is suffering the many warnings against voting President Akufo-Addo to power it ignored. “Sometimes it is difficult to understand President Akufo-Addo and his actions. He has made a lot of us believe the people who said we will regret it if we elect him as our leader. I mean those people actually spoke the truth and now we are paying dearly for refusing to listen to their advice.”

The politician recalled promises then candidate Akufo-Addo made prior to the 2016 elections and how he is now doing the opposite.

In a panel discussion on Happy98.9FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political show with Don Kwabena Prah, Haruna Amalibah stated a few of such promises, “he said then President Mahama was taxing Ghanaians to death and promised to put an end to excessive taxing. At the launch of the 2016 manifesto the NPP promised to remove all nuisance taxes including ESLA which was introduced by former President Mahama to clear energy sector debt and strengthen our power sector. Akufo-Addo spoke against it but as President, he has increased the ESLA tax.”

The NDC communicator citied the Kume Preko demonstrations which President Akufo-Addo was key in after the late Jerry John Rawlings introduced Value Added Tax (VAT) in 1995. “President Akufo-Addo described Ghana as a land of milk and honey saying Ghana is only suffering because of poor leadership. I mean we are now suffering under the poor Akufo-Addo leadership.”

With promises of shoring up the cedi against the dollar, he regards President Akufo-Addo as having failed to live up to these promises. “No one ever thought he will fail Ghanaians this woefully but he has proven his critics right. He has proved he is arrogant and no respecter of the law.”

He posited the President’s refusal to respect the rule of law and consider the cries of the people proves he is no democrat. “If the authority of gov’t is from the sovereign will of the people and the entire nation opposed the e-levy why did they still implement it? Is Akufo-Addo the same man who criticized Rawlings barely 20 years ago?” he queried.

Haruna Amalibah called on the President to apologize to Ghanaians for his deception and misdirection.
