2022 World Cup: Ghana can progress out of Group H – Joetex Frimpong

Former Ghana international, Joetex Frimpong, says the Black Stars can progress out of their group in the 2022 World Cup.

The four-time AFCON champions have been placed in Group H alongside Portugal, Uruguay and Korea Republic.

Ghana take on Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in their opening game in the tournament, a repeat of the 2014 World Cup group game in Brasilia which the Stars lost 2-1 to exit the competition.

Ghana also renew its rivalry against Luis Suarez’s Uruguay following the 2010 handball incident which denied the Black Stars a place in the semifinals in South Africa.

According to Joetex Frimpong, if the Black Stars show determination and character like how they approached the World Cup playoffs against Nigeria, he is confident the team can progress out of the group stage.

Speaking in an interview on Happy FM with Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Ghana’s World Cup group after the draw he said: “The team can go far in the World Cup. The players who played in the qualifiers are very good. I don’t see us strengthening the team again unless the players coming in are exceptionally good and playing regularly for their clubs.

“Currently we have a striker Felix Afena-Gyan is good but he needs a partner or support upfront. The team is a young team, comparing it to the 2006 team, they had played for long and knew each other. If the players play with that determination against Nigeria, I believe they can progress to the next round”.

The 2022 World Cup kick starts on November 21.
