Gov’t to construct Water Supply Projects in every region – Cecilia Dapaah

The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has disclosed that the Akufo-Addo government is set to build water supply projects in all the sixteen (16) regions in Ghana.

She noted that the move in an attempt by government to make water supply easily accessible to all Ghanaians, through the “Water for All Agenda”

According to her, eight of the water projects are currently underway and in various constructional stages in regions like Upper East, Tamale, Sunyani, Yendi among others.

In a recent press briefing, the minister lauded the President for his enormous investment in the delivery of water services towards the improvement in sanitation.

“Government is determined to provide each region with at least one Water Supply Project through the ‘Water for All Agenda’. The President has cut the sod for the construction of Eight (8) major water supply projects and each of these are at various stages of implementation. These projects include the Upper East Water Supply Project, Yendi Water Supply Project, Tamale Water Supply Project, Damongo Water Supply Project, Wenchi Water Supply Project, Sunyani Water Supply Project, Keta Water Supply Project and the Sekondi-Takoradi Water Supply Project,” she shared.

Hon. Cecilia Dapaah indicated that the Upper East Water Project has been completed and ready to be commissioned in due time, while site acquisition for the water treatment plant and Intake has been completed for the Keta Water Supply Project.

She further reiterated that the government has also initiated several projects within the rural water sub-sector under the “Water for All” agenda which includes, five Districts Water Supply Project (STRABAG) currently in phase three, the Ghana-Spain Debt Swap for Development Programme (DSDP), the Rural Communities and Small Towns Water Supply Project (RCSTWSP) and the rehabilitation of some Small Towns and Community Pipe Schemes by CWSA under the Reform Programme.
