Police at the Kwabenya District Command in Accra have been detailing how a 42-year-old female sergeant is adjusting to life after she was held hostage in a taxi cab for hours by suspected robbers.

A statement said the incident occurred at about 7:00 p.m., on Friday (May 20).

The victim [name withheld], is receiving treatment at a community hospital in Lapaz, after she passed out at the Haatso Police Station, in an attempt to lodge her complaint after she was freed.

The victim however looked traumatized but was in a stable condition as she narrated her ordeal to investigators who had visited her at the facility, police say.

“She reported that, on 20/05/2022 at about 1900HRS, she boarded a taxi cab in front of Winsconsin University North Legon which had three male occupants including the driver en route to Agbogba. That immediately she sat in the rear seat she was attacked by the occupants of the said taxi cab and taken hostage for about an hour. That she was punched in the face and mid section of her body, several times and made to bend her head down in the taxi cab to avoid being noticed”, the incident report widely shared online read.

“That in the process she was robbed of ₵1,100, a Samsung A32 android phone and other valuables. That she was forced to release her mobile mobile pin code to the robbers who searched her handbag and found her Police identification card and threatened to kill her for being a police officer.

The poor security officer was left to her fate when she was blindfolded and later pushed out of the vehicle as her attackers sped off.

The police in Accra are yet to confirm any arrest.
