Communication Team Member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Haruna Amaliba, has described the ruling party a danger to Ghana’s democracy.

According to the politician, Members of Parliament (MPs) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have all along blamed the country’s economic woes on the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukraine crisis when they knew the true culprit was the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

“To me what happened in parliament 3 days ago proves the NPP is a danger to our democracy. They knew the problem which attacked Ghana and was far more dangerous than the Covid-19 pandemic was Ken Ofori-Attah but they gave us other excuses. They have eventually admitted to what the problem is and we now know them for who they truly are,” he told Don Kwabena Prah during a panel discussion on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political talk show.

The Majority Caucus in Parliament has backed President Nana Akufo-Addo’s call to allow Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to stay in office to negotiate the $3 billion IMF deal and to also prepare and present the 2023 budget.

Some members of the Majority Caucus in Parliament on Tuesday mounted pressure on President Nana Akufo-Addo to sack Ofori-Atta, and the minister of state at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen, to restore public confidence in the Ghanaian economy

However, after meeting with the president over the issue, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmakers have resolved to stand with the Finance Minister to supervise all the initiatives being taken by the government to address the woes of the economy before bowing out.
