Former Ghana U17 star, Awudu Issaka, has praised the coaches of Ghana’s Black Starlets for the team’s triumph in the UEFA U-16 Development Tournament held in Serbia.

The Black Starlets emerged victorious in the inaugural competition after an impressive run that saw them finish with a perfect record.

The team, led by Karim Zito with support from assistant coach Laryea Kingson, kicked off their campaign in style with a resounding 4-0 victory over Serbia in their opening game followed by a hard-fought win against Spain before ultimately overcoming a stubborn Swiss side to clinch the title on Tuesday.

However, the former Liberty Professionals and Anderlecht star, attributed the team’s impressive performance to the coaches.

“The boys(Black Starlets) were under the supervision of good coaches and it was visible for all to see during their matches. We could hear their coaches rebuke and correct them during matches when mistakes were committed,” he told Joe Debrah host of Happy FM’s Wamputu Sports.

“The coaches have lived up to expectation and have made us realize that if experienced coaches are paired with upcoming coaches, it goes a long way to help Ghana football,” he added.

Awudu Issaka is currently coaching the future generation of Ghanaian stars in his academy in Accra.

As a player, he took the world by storm at the 1995 FIFA World U17 Championships where he was the star man for the Black Starlets in their gold-winning feat in Ecuador.
