Where Are They?: Ex-Hearts legend Dan Coleman reveals how he got nicknamed ‘Kofi Gari’
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

Former Hearts of Oak defender, Daniel Coleman affectionately called ‘ Kofi Gari’ has disclosed how he acquired the nickname.

According to the legend, his mum, back in the days was a very popular ‘gari’ vendor and because he and his siblings helped with the movement of his mum’s gari jute sacks, his sister also got nicknamed ‘Akua Gari’.

Speaking in an interview on Happy FM’s Where Are They segment, the former Ghana international recounted ‘Kofi Gari’ became a household name in Asawaase, Kumasi, where he began his football career.

“I got nicknamed Kofi Gari because my mum was a very popular gari vendor and I was usually seen carrying her gari jute sacks. In Asawaase, gari became a household name, and even my elder sister was also nicknamed Akua Gari. Everyone in my house was nicknamed gari and my mum would usually tell people to call her that instead of her kids’.

Dan Coleman was undoubtedly one of the most decorated Hearts of Oak players.

He won the CAF Confederation Cup in 2004 and three Ghana Premier League titles with the Rainbow Club (Hearts of Oak)

The former Okwahu United towering guardsman has been in London, United Kingdom for more than six years after retiring from football.
