Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams has officially announced his exclusion from Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar due to injury.
Prior to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Williams revealed his intention to switch to the Ghanaian national team. He has already made six appearances for the Black Stars.
The 28-year-old attacker in a statement on his official Twitter account announced that he has informed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Black Stars technical team led by Chris Hughton over his decision to withdraw from this month’s game against Madagascar.
According to Inaki Williams, he has opted out of the national team to undergo a medical examination on his right knee which has affected his output in the just-ended season.
However, the forward was a part of Chris Hughton’s 24-man team for the match against Madagascar, which was announced on May 30, 2023.
He managed to score ten goals and provided three assists for Athletic Bilbao in 36 La Liga appearances in the 2022/23 season’s campaign.
Inaki Williams is yet to score a goal for Ghana since making his debut for the West African nation in 2022.
Ghana is scheduled to battle it out with Madagascar in the Group E of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on June 11
