Recent reports indicate that in addition to the four defendants already in court for the theft case involving the former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah, according to the Ghana Police Service, three additional people have been detained.

This comes after the prior charge sheet was altered following the Attorney General’s recommendations.

Patience Botwe, 18, a hairdresser, Sarah Agyei, 30, an unemployed plumber, Benjamin Sowah, 29, a plumber, Malik Dauda, 34, an unemployed merchant, Job Pomary, a mechanic, and Yahaya Sumaila, an excavator operator are now on the list of those accused.

They have each been charged with 14 counts total, including one act of conspiracy, five counts of theft, and eight counts of receiving something dishonestly.

The three new suspects, Christiana Achab, a trader and Job Pomary, a mechanic, are alleged to have received Ghc 300,000.00 from Patience Botwe, Cecilia Dapaah’s housekeeper, in 2023, according to the facts of the case.

The police further disclosed that Christiana Achab spent Ghc 800,000 on an eleven-unit chamber and hall self-contained complex in Budumburam for herself after receiving over Ghc 2 million of the stolen money.

She is also accused of spending Ghc 300,000 on a three-bedroom property in Aplaku for Patience Botwe.

Additionally, Christiana Achab and Job Pomary are said to have spent Ghc 280,000 on a four-bedroom house in Kokrobite for Christiana.

Christiana Achab is further accused of getting in touch with Yahaya Sumaila and using Yahaya Sumaila’s name to pay Ghc 850,000 for a three-bedroom house in Amrahia.

She spent Ghc 300,000 on two Honda Acura cars, each registered in the names of Franklin Sarakpo and Patience Botwe, in addition to the residences.

The prosecution, which was headed by DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye, requested that the suspects be kept in custody so that additional inquiries could be made.

The prosecution informed the court that after thorough investigations are complete, the Attorney General’s office would take over the case docket.

Subsequently, the Circuit Court in Accra remanded five out of the seven accused persons.

The court also granted bail to two lactating mothers to the tune of Ghc1 million each with three sureties to be justified.
