COP George Alex Mensah, one of the senior police officials allegedly involved in the plot to have Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare removed, has once again criticized the current IGP and called him the worst in Ghana’s history.
He reaffirmed this position during his appearance before the parliamentary committee investigating the leaked audio in which senior police officers were heard plotting the removal of the IGP.
“I can tell you that for the 31 years that I have been in the Police Service, this IGP is the worst IGP,” COP Mensah emphasised during his testimony before the committee on Friday, September 1.
COP Mensah also claimed that he had previously brought to the attention of the IGP several issues within the Police Service that were negatively affecting the morale of police officers. However, according to him, his suggestions and concerns were consistently ignored.
This sentiment dovetails his earlier statement to the committee, where he had expressed that IGP Dampare’s leadership style had contributed to a decline in morale among many police officers.
