MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch

MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) has reduced some of its intercity bus services to focus on intracity operations in Accra, aiming to ease transport challenges in the capital. This move involves scaling down long-distance routes, such as those to Kumasi and Cape Coast, to allocate more buses to high-demand intracity routes like Adenta, Kasoa, Amasaman, and Nsawam. The decision follows directives from the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to support private transport operators during peak hours. MMTL is currently operating with a limited fleet of 115 buses, down from over 1,000 when it started in 2004, but is working to maximize available resources. This initiative aims to boost MMT’s operations, improve service coverage, and reduce congestion pressures in major urban centers. “We are committed to improving transport services in Accra and ensuring that our buses are deployed where they are most needed,” said an MMTL spokesperson. The public is encouraged to take advantage of the enhanced intracity services, and MMTL apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the reduction in intercity services.

Vodafone Ghana has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the growth and transformation of Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana. The telecommunications company marked the official launch of its annual SME Month with a media briefing led by Tawa Bolarin, Director of the Enterprise Business Unit & Wholesale at Vodafone Ghana.

“SMEs are the cornerstone of Ghana’s economy, contributing over 70% of the Gross Domestic Product and constituting about 85% of businesses within the private sector,” Tawa stated. “Our purpose as an organisation is to connect people and businesses for a better future. We are strategically positioned to be the catalyst for the growth of SMEs.”

This year, Vodafone Business is going beyond traditional support mechanisms to offer a comprehensive suite of initiatives aimed at SMEs. “We are not just a service provider; we are a growth partner,” Tawa added. At the forefront of the SME Month celebration is the launch of 4G+, a transformative step in ensuring that SMEs have access to the fastest, most reliable connectivity available.

To make this technology more accessible, Vodafone has launched a device financing scheme. Customers can acquire 4G+ capable phones from Vodafone retail outlets and pay for them in manageable instalments. Those who take advantage of this offer will also receive 2.5GB of free data every month for a year.

Alfred Neizer, Vodafone Ghana’s Head of SME and SoHo, introduced One Business, a first-of-its-kind converged proposition in Ghana. “One Business has been meticulously designed to provide companies with a comprehensive communication solution,” Mr Neizer explained. “It brings together website solutions for businesses, fibre broadband, mobile data, and includes free calls within employees and calls to other networks. Customers who sign up through the month of September will get a 50% discount on installation.”

Throughout September, Vodafone will share valuable insights on the key elements that SMEs need for sustainable and profitable growth. This information will be shared through various digital platforms and supported by its annual SME conference, The Vodafone Business Runway. “This year’s Runway will convene leading industry experts to share valuable insights on business expansion through innovation, funding, and compliance,” Tawa elaborated.

In addition to digital and radio promotions for its customers, Vodafone is offering a range of rewards including discounts on bills, business rebranding, and smart devices. Users of Vodafone Cash can look forward to the Vodafone Cashless Bazaar, which is an innovative marketplace where the public can look forward to amazing offers from selected merchants through Vodafone Cash. This pop-up market will be taking place in major regional capitals across Ghana throughout September.
