The Communication Director of Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Felix Martey has suggested that the Ghanaian citizen deserves an hourly wage to resolve issues of minimum earnings.

In an interview on Happy 98.9 FM’s “Epa Hoa Daben” with Sefah Danquah the politician said the PPP when voted into power will build a 24-hour economy to clear the minimum wages paid to employees.

According to him, this comes as sheer wickedness on the part of government to pay employees a minimum wage of GHc14.88, hence the PPP as part of its policies would implement a salary structure to include an hourly rate.

“For instance if an hour is GHc 15 and you have worked for six hours, we would multiply fifteen by six and that will be your payment for the day and same will be applied to pay you on a monthly base,” he explained.

He further argued that paying minimum wage to employees is a thing of the past stressing that Ghanaians deserve better. He emphasized that Ghana is no different from other countries, issuing hourly payments. “Minimum wage was practiced during the colonial time. Seeing where we have gotten to as a country, that is not the regime we should be practicing.”

He reiterated that the policy is to transform the economic sector to support the growth of the country.
