The Minority Caucus in Parliament has issued a stern response to Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, following his dismissive remarks about the #OccupyBoG protest, vowing to hold him accountable for his actions.

In an interview with the international business website Central Banking, Dr. Addison labeled the protesters as “hooligans” and asserted that neither he nor his deputies would resign in the face of the demonstration.

The #OccupyBoG protest, organized by the Minority Caucus, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), and their supporters, took place on Tuesday, October 3, with participants expressing their concerns over the country’s economic crisis and calling for Dr. Addison’s resignation.

In response, Dr. Addison characterized the protest as “completely unnecessary” and suggested that there were more civilized avenues for addressing grievances.

Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, condemned Dr. Addison’s response as arrogant and disrespectful to both the Minority Caucus and the NDC leadership.

Ayariga expressed the view that the Governor’s dismissive stance indicated frustration stemming from his perceived inability to effectively manage the Central Bank.

He further emphasized that Dr. Addison’s characterization of the protesters as “hooligans” had not been well-received, and he declared, “He says we are hooligans, so we will show him what hooligans do.”

The Bawku Central MP disclosed that the Minority group intends to hold discussions with the NDC leadership to determine the next course of action aimed at holding the Governor accountable for what they perceive as his “incompetence.”
