MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch

MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) has reduced some of its intercity bus services to focus on intracity operations in Accra, aiming to ease transport challenges in the capital. This move involves scaling down long-distance routes, such as those to Kumasi and Cape Coast, to allocate more buses to high-demand intracity routes like Adenta, Kasoa, Amasaman, and Nsawam. The decision follows directives from the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to support private transport operators during peak hours. MMTL is currently operating with a limited fleet of 115 buses, down from over 1,000 when it started in 2004, but is working to maximize available resources. This initiative aims to boost MMT’s operations, improve service coverage, and reduce congestion pressures in major urban centers. “We are committed to improving transport services in Accra and ensuring that our buses are deployed where they are most needed,” said an MMTL spokesperson. The public is encouraged to take advantage of the enhanced intracity services, and MMTL apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the reduction in intercity services.

Fatawu Hamidu, the promising left-back of both Medeama SC has shed light on the remarkable journey that led Medeama SC to secure a coveted spot in the CAF Champions League group stage.

The 24-year-old player, who had previously been a consistent performer for Medeama SC, in an enlightening conversation with Happy FM’s Ohene Bampoe Brenya, recounted the team’s challenging journey in the previous season. He highlighted the initial struggles in the first round, saying, “In the first round of last season, the team (Medeama) struggled to grind the results expected until certain changes were done during the second half of the league season which saw the inclusion of myself and other players.”

Hamidu attributed the remarkable turnaround and Medeama’s victory in the Ghana Premier League title to the team’s unique determination. He emphasized, “What makes this team special is our determination, we’re determined to punch above our weight in Africa, make it to the group stages of the CAF Champions League, and we did it. I would credit the team’s hard work and resilience, which I had paid off.”

During the previous season, Fatawu Hamidu made 19 appearances in the Ghanaian Premier League and managed to score two goals. His noteworthy contributions extended beyond domestic matches. Hamidu played a crucial role when Medeama faced Nigeria’s Remo Stars SC during the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League qualifiers. Medeama’s advancement to the next round was secured through a thrilling post-match penalty shootout.

With a well-deserved call-up to the Black Stars, Fatawu Hamidu’s football career reached a significant milestone.

He is part of the Black Stars’ squad for their upcoming friendlies against the United States and Mexico.
