Medeama SC departed Ghana for Egypt on Wednesday afternoon ahead of their CAF Champions League group stage opener against giants, Al Ahly.

The record Champions League holders will host the Ghanaian champions at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo this weekend.

Twenty-one players and 11 backroom staff make the team for the clash against Al Ahly.

Young goalkeeper Abdul Adams Jabal joins Felix Kyei for the Group D opener.

The team has been boosted by the return of Black Stars trio, Jonathan Sowah, Fatawu Hamidu and Nurudeen Abdulai. The trio arrived in Ghana on Wednesday and have already joined their teammates for the trip today.

Sowah made his competitive debut for the Black Stars in the World Cup qualifier against Comoros after coming on as a late substitute in the game.

Meanwhile, Hamidu and Abdulai watched from the bench as Ghana succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the Moroni Stadium.

Medeama are aiming for a flying start to the group stage campaign as they take on giants Al Ahly.

The Tarkwa-based club made it to the group stage of the CAF Champions League for the first time in their history after eliminating Remo Stars and Horoya AC of Nigeria and Guinea respectively.

The Mauve and Yellow will also face Young Africans of Tanzania and CD Belouizdad of Algeria in Group D of the competition.
